CALEXICO, Calif. — Three named parks are at the center of a city grant application aimed at expanding recreation and improving public spaces for Calexico families.

The City of Calexico’s public announcements identify Rodriguez Park, Rockwood Plaza Park and Joel Reisen Park as locations included in an application for the California Statewide Park Program.

How residents can influence priorities

The city and its Community Services Commission organized six outreach meetings and made a survey available to gather public suggestions. A community process can help determine priorities such as shade, paths, playground equipment, accessibility, recreation space and maintenance, but no list of those possible amenities should be represented as a final funded plan without the grant application and award.

What is confirmed today?

The official information confirms the city’s intention to apply for funding and the names of the three parks. It does not by itself establish an award amount, the success of the application, signed construction contracts or completion dates for specific improvements.

For residents, useful questions include which park has the most immediate safety need, whether lighting or accessible paths are proposed, and how long-term upkeep would be paid for.

Where to follow the application

Residents can request current application materials and meeting findings from the City of Calexico and the Community Services Commission. Public participation matters because neighborhood conditions may differ substantially from one park to the next.
