CALEXICO, Calif. — Residents and border-crossing pedestrians have faced a months-long infrastructure project around the Calexico Pedestrian West Land Port of Entry, where sewer improvements prompted the city to announce a closure along First Street.
In its official public announcements, the City of Calexico said a segment of First Street between Paulin Avenue and Rockwood Avenue would close beginning August 10, 2026. The city estimated that the infrastructure work would last roughly four months.
Where the work is taking place
The specified corridor is close to a border crossing used by local residents, visitors and workers. Construction can create a need for different walking routes and affect trips through downtown Calexico; however, the notice does not provide a minute-by-minute traffic status for October 31.
The published estimate would place the work into December if the original schedule holds. An estimated duration is not a guarantee that every street segment is still closed today or that construction will end on a particular date. Drivers and pedestrians should obey actual barriers, flaggers and posted notices.
What to check before traveling
Visitors should confirm current access and crossing information with the responsible border authorities and Calexico public works before setting out. The city’s bulletin was issued in both English and Spanish; residents can refer to the original notices instead of relying on old social-media screenshots.
